MERZARIO (HK) LTD

The History of Merzario reflects, in many ways, the history of the economic development of Italy.

Founded in 1835 Merzario started to operate with a “Daily service of Diligence and Courier”. At the end of the century, after having settled in Genoa, it started developing the links towards the Americas and the promising markets of Africa, where it exploited the commercial opportunities offered by Italian colonial initiatives, by opening an office in Massaua. After the end of World War II and with the World economy starting to grow again, Merzario began to expand traffic relations which shortly developed into a widespread network of branches in Italy, Europe, the Middle and Far East and the American Continent. At the same time the search for new opportunities lead Merzario, even if only for a limited period of time, to become a ship-owner in its own right.
